Sussex’s attacking opening batsman Phil Salt has on Sunday (September 6) earned an England call-up, as the uncapped star has been added to England squad as a reserve for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Australia.

Salt will join the England squad as an official reserve alongside Joe Denly and Saqib Mahmood ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting at Emirates Old Trafford on September 11.

The right-hander has been added to England’s 13-member squad for Australia ODIs after his impressive batting show during the team’s white-ball training, smashing a 58-ball century in a warm-up match for the England Lions against Ireland at the Ageas Bowl.

A hard-hitting top-order batsman was previously named in England's T20I squad against Pakistan last summer but didn’t get the opportunity to showcase his game at the highest level.

Meanwhile, England still hopes that Jason Roy could be involved in some ODI games against Australia after a side injury – which forced him to miss the T20I series against Pakistan and Australia.

England announced Salt's selection on Twitter:

Notably, England selection meant Salt will miss Sussex's next clash against Surrey in the Bob Willis Trophy, the first-class competition in which he scored 290 runs in four matches at an average of 36.25 and a strike rate of 64.87 including three half-centuries so far.

In List-A cricket, Sussex batsman scored 494 runs at an average of 32.93 with one hundred and two fifties in 16 innings, while he has struck 1605 runs including 12 half-centuries in his 67 T20 innings till now.

England ODI Squad:
Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

Reserves: Joe Denly, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt.
