The second T20I of the three-match series between England and Australia was played in Southampton today, September 6, 2020. England came into this match leading the series 1-0 with a 2-run win in the first match.
Australia’s Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat first. Unfortunately, Australia lost Warner for 0 and Alex Carey for 2 runs. Steve Smith soon got run out for 10, but Finch continued his good run with 40 in 33 balls.
ENG v AUS 2020: Morgan says Root has future in England's T20 setup despite snub against Australia
At 79/4 in 12th overs, things looked bleak for the Kangaroos, but contributions from Stoinis (35), Maxwell (26), Agar (23), and Cummins (13*) pushed Australia to 157/7 in 20 overs. Chris Jordan picked 2/40 in his 4 overs.
England’s chase started off poorly as well with Bairstow hitting his own stumps on delivery from Starc for 9. But then Jos Buttler (77* in 54; 8x4s, 2x6s) and Dawid Malan (42; 7x4s) added 87 runs for the second wicket. Though Australia claimed two more wickets of Morgan and Banton, Ali stroked 13* in 6 balls and took England to a much deserved 6-wicket win with 7 balls to spare.
Ashton Agar picked 2/27 in his 4 overs.
England has now won the T20I series with one match to go, which will be played on September 8.
