Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif recalled the day ex-pacer Tanvir Ahmed introduced him to MS Dhoni. Tanvir was amazed by Dhoni's potential as a batsman after watching him on the tour to Kenya in 2004.

Dhoni had smashed a couple of centuries in the tri-series which involved Pakistan A, India A, and Kenya. Both the tons came against Pakistan and his brute strength made headlines on the tour.

Rashid said Tanvir introduced Dhoni as someone who could make him forget the India great Sachin Tendulkar.

“I remember I spoke to Tanvir Ahmed who had gone to the tour to Kenya in 2004. I was in England at the time. I spoke to him on phone,” Latif recalled in the latest episode of his YouTube show ‘Caught Behind’.

“Tanvir told me that Rashid bhai, a player has come who will make people forget about Sachin Tendulkar. I said ‘that is not possible. Sachin is Sachin, how can you get a player like this’. But Dhoni came quite close to Sachin in his career in terms of brand value,” he said.

The former India World Cup-winning captain quit international retirement on August 15. He had made his international debut in 2004 and truly announced his arrival with a hundred against Pakistan at Vizag.
