ENG v AUS 2020: England name strong squads for Australia limited-overs series

Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and others to feature in white-ball cricket for this first time this season.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) named the squads on Monday (August 31) for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Australia at home. Eoin Morgan will lead both the teams which sees the return of regulars Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Joe Root and others in white-ball cricket for the first time in this home season.

Root and Chris Woakes are not picked in the T20I squad but will play in the three-match ODI series. Mark Wood and Sam Curran have been included in both squads. Jason Roy is still unavailable though he will stay as part of the bubble and could play the ODIs if he recovers timely from a left side-strain.

Ben Stokes will not play the white-ball matches against the Ashes rivals as he is in New Zealand with his ailing father.

Commenting on the selection of the squads, National Selector Ed Smith, said: “These two series against Australia provide an exciting end to the summer. We have selected strong squads. We are also continuing to develop depth in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cups.”

The T20I series will be held in Southampton on September 4, 6 and 8. Manchester will host the ODI series with the matches to be played on September 11, 13 and 16.
