Jasprit Bumrah recalls his Test hat-trick, tweets "this day will hold a special place in my heart"

Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan are the other two Indians to take a Test hattrick.

Jasprit Bumrah acknowledges the crowd after taking a five-wicket haul | Getty31 August 2019 was the day when Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah became only the third bowler from the country to pick a Test hat-trick. Bumrah achieved the feat in the second Test against West Indies in Jamaica.

It was Bumrah’s 12th Test match and the right-arm pacer removed Darren Bravo caught at second slip for four runs before trapping both Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase lbw for golden ducks at Sabina Park in Kingston.

Chase was originally given not out by the on-field umpire, by captain Virat Kohli opted for the DRS review, making the West Indian the first batsman in Test history to become part of a hat-trick via DRS.

Jasprit Bumrah recalled this special day with a tweet that read, "One year ago, but this day will always hold a special place in my heart. "

Bumrah went onto pick 6/27, routing the West Indies for 117 runs in their first innings, Earlier, India was put in to bat by West Indies captain Jason Holder, who won the toss. Half-centuries from Mayank Agarwal, Ishant Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane and a brilliant maiden ton from Hanuma Vihari helped India make 416 runs.

India then made 168/4d with Rahane and Vihari making fifties and set the home team a target of 468 runs.  

Bumrah credited Virat Kohli for his hat-trick as Kohli went for DRS review | GettyWest Indies fared better in second do, but folded for 210 runs with Brooks making 50, as Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami picked 3 wickets apiece and India won the match by 257 runs and the two-match Test series 2-0.

Later Bumrah credited his hat-trick to captain Virat Kohli as he took the DRS review which got him the third wicket.

I thought it was bat first. So I didn't appeal so much. But it was a good review in the end, and I think I owe the hat-trick to the captain," Bumrah said in an interview which was posted on bcci.tv.

Before him, Harbhajan Singh had achieved the feat against Australia in 2001 whereas Irfan Pathan had taken a hat-trick against Pakistan in 2006.
