Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is likely to appoint former New Zealand cricketer and batting coach Craig McMillan as their Test batting consultant if Neil McKenzie opts out of the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

McKenzie looks highly unlikely to tour Sri Lanka with Bangladesh squad because of their early departure to the Island country – nearly one month before the series in order to adapt to the conditions and start their preparations keeping in mind the current COVID-19 situation.

The BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Akram Khan, has confirmed that the board has approached McMillan for the role on a “short-term basis” and they are trying to convince him to tour Sri Lanka, where Bangladesh is expected to play three Tests starting on October 24.

Akram told Cricbuzz: “His [McKenzie] chances of going to Sri Lanka are 50-50. We are trying to convince him [McKenzie] as we want him, but he does not seem to be keen, and if that is the case, we will have to find someone as a replacement, but he will be appointed on a short-term basis.”

He further added, “We are talking with a few other candidates and McMillan is one of them, but nothing is finalized at the moment... we are hoping to sort out the matter soon.”

Noteworthy, McMillan resigned as the batting coach of New Zealand after the 2019 World Cup after helping his country to reach the finals of the 2015 and 2019 World Cup.
