As soon as the legendary MS Dhoni called time on his international career on Saturday (August 15), cricket fans and other eminent personalities asked for a farewell match for one of India’s greatest cricketers.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to organise one final match for Dhoni, who represented India in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is.
However, Rajeev Shukla, the former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, on Sunday (August 16) said there is no question of a farewell match for Dhoni as the former captain himself never asked for it.
"Dhoni never expressed any will to the BCCI for a farewell match for him. Since he never raised it, there is no question of any such match," Shukla told ANI.
Team India tasted huge success under Dhoni’s captaincy, winning the 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He also led the team to pinnacle in Test cricket.
As a batsman, Dhoni transformed himself into one of the greatest finishers of the game. He has more than 17000 international runs to his name, including 16 centuries. The former skipper has also recorded 634 catches and 195 stumpings across three formats.
The World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand at Old Trafford was his last appearance in Team India colours.
MS Dhoni will now be seen in action for Chennai Super Kings in the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), slated to be held in UAE from September 19.
