With MS Dhoni announcing his retirement from the international game, an era in Indian cricket has come to an end, which saw the team reach new heights under his leadership. The world might never see a finisher with such calmness ever again.

And if Gautam Gambhir’s words are to be believed, we might never see any Indian captain even come closer to MS Dhoni’s most unique record as the Men in Blue’s leader.

Dhoni is the only captain in the world to win all three ICC trophies - the 50-over World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy. Apart from this he also took India to no.1 position in ICC Test team rankings.

Speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gambhir spoke about Dhoni's achievement of lifting all the three ICC trophies, a feat according to him will never be repeated again.

"One record if you talk about, which is going to stay forever is MS Dhoni's three ICC trophies. I don't think so any other captain would ever be able to achieve that. I think, whether it is the T20 World Cup, whether it is ICC Champions Trophy or 2011 World Cup. I think that is something which is going to stay forever, and I can bet, that's going to stay forever,” Gambhir said.

Gambhir himself aided Dhoni in winning two of those trophies by playing match-winning innings on the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa and 2011 World Cup at home. In fact, he added 109 runs with MS Dhoni in the final of 2011 event as India chased 275 odd runs to win the trophy.

"I think 100s will eventually get broken, someone will come and probably score more double 100s than Rohit Sharma, but I don't think so any Indian captain would be able to achieve three ICC trophies, so MS Dhoni's going to be there to stay forever," he added.

MS Dhoni played 350 ODIs, 90 Tests, and 98 T20Is for India from 2004-2019.
