The Cabinet Minister of the Uttar Pradesh government was originally taken to Sanjay Gandhi PGI Hospital in Lucknow on July 12 but was later shifted with the complications piling on.

"Early morning today, Chetan ji had a kidney failure and subsequently, had multi-organ failure. He is currently on life support. We are all praying that he wins this battle," a senior Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) official told PTI on Saturday (August 15).

Chauhan played 40 Tests for India, in many of which he opened with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, and made 2,084 runs.

His contribution to Indian cricket wasn't limited to runs on the field, as Chauhan served the DDCA in various roles, including president, vice-president, secretary and chief selector. He was manager of the Indian cricket team on its 2007-08 tour to Australia.
