“Youngsters need to be taught to accept rejection,” opines R Ashwin after death of Mumbai cricketer

27-year-old Karan Tiwari committed suicide after he couldn't break into any IPL team for IPL 2020.

Karan Tiwari with Ashish Nehra | TwitterIt was a piece of sad news for all cricket fans on August 12, when a Mumbai-based young club cricketer Karan Tiwari was found hanging in his Malad resident. The 27-year-old was known as Mumbai’s Dale Steyn amongst his friends for his physique and similar bowling action to the South African great.

The reason for his suicide as given by his friend who received a call from him on the night of his demise was that he was upset over not being picked by any IPL franchise for the upcoming 13th edition of the tournament.

Karan played club cricket for Souvenir Cricket Club and United Friends Sports Club and also bowled to senior Mumbai Ranji players in nets. He had previously bowled to royal Challengers Bangalore players in the nets.

One of Karan's close friends said: "He was hoping to get selected for a state team. He was in talks with a few of them. He was a very promising cricketer and had uploaded his bowling and batting videos on his last WhatsApp status. It is shocking that he chose to take such a drastic step.”

Speaking on the same, India spinner R Ashwin mentioned that youngsters today should be taught how to handle and accept rejection in order to prevent them from taking such drastic measures. He said that the future of the country is in the hands of youth and rejection is just a part of the journey called life.

The demise of the Mumbai based cricketer is such a reality check, he decided to end his life because he couldn’t take rejection. The future lies with the youth of today and they must be taught to accept rejection as a part of the journey called life. #karantiwari,” Ashwin tweeted.

He further said that youngsters looking to make a name for themselves in cricket or any other field need to be shown different career options as well when they are in college or school itself.
