"Dhoni is a mixture of aggression and safety, Kohli is learning that fast," says ex-BCCI selector

Kohli is known for his aggressive captaincy, but he is changing with time.

Former India captain MS Dhoni was very calm while leading the team, but he was aggressive too with his moves whenever needed. Dhoni had qualities for the different moments, which the former BCCI national selector Gagan Khoda finds ideal.

Khoda feels current India captain Virat Kohli is slowly becoming calm and soon he will also have the blend of both, aggression and passiveness. As per him, Kohli is learning very fast and will soon reach Dhoni's standard of captaincy.

“They say Virat Kohli is very aggressive, but MS Dhoni is not. I don’t believe in this. Aggression is not being vocal. MS Dhoni was aggressive and safe. You have to be as safe as a captain. Virat Kohli is aggressive and learning how to be safe. He’s learning very quickly. The only difference is that MS Dhoni is not vocal but he is equally aggressive,” Khoda told SportsKeeda.

Khoda lauded Dhoni for being a mixture of both the important qualities as a captain. While speaking on Kohli, he said the 31-year-old will succeed in balancing both the aspects.

“You can’t attack and be aggressive all the time. You have to be aggressive and safe. MS Dhoni was a blend of both. Virat Kohli is reaching there,” Khoda said.

“MS Dhoni was a great captain and used to study the game very well. Virat Kohli is getting there and he is a very quick learner. He’ll admit his mistake and say he’ll do better next time.", said Khoda who was part of India’s selection panel from November of 2015 to January of 2017.

Kohli has started full-time limited-overs captaincy since January 2017. He led the Indian cricket team to 2-1 ODI series win against England at home.
