Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) six franchise owners have urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to revise their ownership and financial model of the league saying that they are paying more than what they are earning from the tournament.

The relations between the PCB and the franchises soured after the board excluded three teams, Karachi, Lahore, and Multan, from negotiating table for defaulting on payments.

According to unofficial figures for the fifth edition of the PSL, which was postponed after league-stage matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic, franchises are expected to get around 20 to 22 crores each as their share from the earnings.

The owners of the franchises have pointed out that they are actually paying out of their pockets instead of earning and also insisted that in future, only PCB Chairman or the CEO Wasim Khan, should address the meetings between the franchises and the board.

The franchises had earlier sent a strongly worded email to the PCB after the last-minute cancelation of the governing council meeting which was scheduled for July 28.

PCB had responded by saying that only those franchises will be invited to discuss the issues, which have fulfilled their complete financial obligations.

The six franchises also claimed in their mail that the response of the board to their problems has been unprofessional.

The PCB has not come to a decision on holding the remaining four matches of the PSL 2020 or announcing the winner of the tournament on basis of the points table standings after the league stage.

Apparently, PCB stands to lose 3-4 crores if they hold the remaining matches which include the final of the tournament as well.
