Kevin Pietersen credits Rahul Dravid's advice for overcoming issues against spin

Dravid sent an e-mail, getting Pietersen to think confident and clear facing left-arm spinners.

Kevin Pietersen | AFP Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen once again thanked India legend Rahul Dravid for helping him overcome issues against spin during his playing career, saying Dravid's advice is what got him thinking clearer at the crease.

While he faced up against Dravid in many international encounters, the duo shared the dressing room for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

When Pietersen was struggling to tackle the left-arm spinners, it was Dravid who reminded him what a champion batsman he is and that there is nothing to suggest that his problems are irreparable.

"Dravid wrote me the most beautiful e-mail, explaining the art of playing spin and ever since then it was a whole new world," Pietersen was quoted as saying by Sky Sports during a discussion on how one-day batting has developed over the years.

"The key point was looking for the length as soon as the ball was delivered – wait for the spinner and make your decision," he added.

The biggest evidence of Pietersen's resurgence and the validation of Dravid's advice was his legendary knock in the 2012 Mumbai Test that changed the whole momentum of England's tour.

On a turning track, the attacking right-hander smashed an unforgettable 186. It was the kind of onslaught India never recovered from, losing by ten wickets and eventually conceding a rare home series defeat.

Pietersen played 104 Tests and scored 8,181 runs at an average of 47.28, including 23 hundreds. In 136 ODIs, he made 4,440 runs at a strike-rate of 86.58, averaging 40.73.
