"I analyse everything about the bowler": Virat Kohli on process before facing each ball

The India skipper has played 86 Tests, 248 ODIs and 82 T20Is with over 20,000 international runs.

Virat Kohli | AFP India captain and modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli, revealed his mindset before facing each ball at the crease, saying he analyses all things related to the bowler who is running up to bowl to him and responds accordingly.

Speaking with teammate Mayank Agarwal in an episode of 'Open Nets with Mayank' for BCCI.tv, Kohli, who has now spent close to 12 years in international cricket, gave the details of his routine just before taking his stance and getting ready for the delivery.

"I analyse everything about the bowler," he said. "If he had bowled a certain kind of delivery what was his body language at that time, was something different from his run-up or something was different with his wrist. Is he holding the ball in a different way? I have done that many times."

"And that's a very amazing feeling when the bowler bowls where you had thought and then you smash it out of the park. Also for that, you need to be aware of what he might bring."

"When you are too focused on your fears you cannot notice anything you are just worried about 'out nhi hona'. But when you are ready the fear goes away and you think how can I use what best in front of me to come on top in this situation," he added.

Kohli, arguably the best batsman in international cricket at the moment, has now scored over 20,000 runs at the highest level, having played 86 Tests, 248 ODIs and 82 T20Is for his country.

The 31-year has also been a successful skipper, with Team India enjoying a fine record across formats under Kohli's leadership.
