Imran Tahir finally leaves Pakistan after four months; will travel to West Indies for CPL 2020

He was stranded in Pakistan due to COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020.

Veteran South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir finally flew out of Pakistan on Sunday (July 26) after being stuck in the country since March 2020 due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

Tahir had come to Pakistan to play in the Pakistan Super League 2020 but the Pakistan-born spinner got stuck in Lahore after Pakistan Government imposed international travel restrictions soon after the suspension of the tournament due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

However, the veteran spinner has finally managed to leave Pakistan after four months, as he flew directly to the West Indies to take part in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020.

Till Sunday, Tahir stayed in Lahore as a source close to the Proteas cricketer said: “He belongs to Lahore so he remained here until the travel restrictions were lifted.”

He is now set to play for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2020 followed by the IPL 2020 later this year for the Chennai Super Kings in the UAE amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Noteworthy, the CPL 2020 will start from August 18 and a total of 33 matches will be played in the league at the empty stadiums with the final to be held on 10 September.
