England batsman James Vince is hoping to “get a bit of a crack” in the upcoming three-match One Day International series against Ireland after having a brilliant comeback to the competitive cricket in a warm-up game for England Lions against the tourists.
The top-order batsman Vince, who was part of England's 2019 World Cup-winning team, made an impressive 66* to help the hosts to beat Ireland 7 wickets in a warm-up game on Sunday (July 26) before the three-match ODI series starting on Wednesday (July 30) at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.

He has not been able to make an impact in the 13 ODIs that he has played for England so far, scoring 265 runs at an average of 24.09 with just one fifty. The right-hander has also played 13 Tests and 12 T20Is, scoring 548 and 340 runs respectively.
With England missing the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler for the Ireland series due to their Test assignment against the West Indies, Vince is hoping to grab the opportunity to make an impact in the upcoming ODI series amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Vince told the PA news agency: “I'm 29 now, so hopefully I've got a few years left in the tank. Obviously it's a very tough side to break into, especially when it's at full strength. It's not always that easy when I'm in and out, but hopefully, I'll get a bit of a crack in this series.”
The 29-year-old signed off by saying, “There's certainly a lot of good players – batters and bowlers – coming through, so for English cricket overall, it's pretty positive signs.”
