India and Pakistan have political tension that has affected cricket and as a result, both the teams haven't played a bilateral series since 2012. However, the Indian government allows BCCI to let the Indian cricket team face Pakistan in ICC tournaments and Asia Cup.

Former India wicket-keeper Surinder Khanna feels the two rivals shouldn't play bilateral series as long as Pakistan doesn't stop activities on the border. India and Pakistan last clashed in the World Cup 2019 which the Virat Kohli-led side won to maintain their unbeaten record against the arch-rivals in the tournament.

“For long, cricket was used as a diplomatic tool. But as they say, 20 saal bhi kutte ki dum ko nalli me rakh do par wo seedhi nahi hoti (which roughly translates to ‘a dog’s tail can never be straightened) and Pakistan behaved in the same manner,” Surinder told CricketAddictor in an exclusive interview.

“This is a political issue and it would be better it they (government) deal with it. But as an Indian, until and unless they change, we should not have any relation with them,” he added.

Surinder's father lived in Lahore before moving to India. He is also a member of the IPL governing council which will meet next week to discuss the details of IPL 2020.
