Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Surinder Khanna has claimed that he was the one who first spotted the veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni.
Khanna further revealed that he spotted Dhoni’s talents during the Steel Authority trials in Ranchi, although, not many know the former cricketer’s contribution in unearthing one of the greatest legends of the game, but it does not matter to him.

Later, Dhoni made his India debut in 2004 and went on to become one of the most successful captains and all-time greats in the world cricket, as well as, third-most successful wicketkeeper after Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist apart from achieving a number of laurels with the bat at the international cricket.
He is also the only captain in the world who has won all ICC trophies and now a brand in the world cricket and Khanna said he doesn’t care whether former India captain acknowledges him or not for his role in his cricketing career while hailing the legend for his contribution both as player and captain.
Pointing out how Dhoni excelled despite not having a copybook technique, former gloveman has suggested all the youngsters not to copy the India legend.

Khanna said of Dhoni: “I think one should not curb his natural style. Dhoni has shown it at the highest level for such a long time. He has been outstanding. There has been no finisher like him in the game. His record in captaincy is good too and whenever India needed him, he scored. In wicketkeeping, he has done a commendable job too despite not having the copybook technique.”
He signed off by saying, “Had Dhoni been copybook, it would have added more grace to his already illustrious career. But as far as his value is concerned, there is no comparison. I spotted him first at the Steel Authority trials in Ranchi. It does not matter whether he acknowledges me or not.”
