Lahore-born Imran Tahir, who played 107 ODIs for South Africa, wanted to play for Pakistan cricket team but he could only make it to the Pakistan U-19 and A team.
Tahir became a resident of South Africa at the age of 26 after marrying Sumayya Dildar, a South African resident. He became eligible to play for South Africa in 2009 after fulfilling the four-year residency period in the country.

"I used to play cricket in Lahore and it played a major role in where I am. I played most of my cricket in Pakistan but did not get a chance here, for which I am disappointed," he told Geo Super.
"It was hard leaving Pakistan but God blessed me and most of the credit for playing for South Africa goes to my wife."
Apart from ODIs, Tahir has represented South Africa in 20 Tests and 38 ODIs. He was also part of the 2011, 2015, and 2019 World Cup squad.
