England leg-spinner Matt Parkinson has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match One-Day International series against Ireland due to an ankle injury on Tuesday (July 21).

The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the same on Tuesday while revealing that the 23-year-old Lancashire spinner has suffered the ankle injury while fielding during an intra-squad practice match on Monday (July 20).
Parkinson made his ODI debut against South Africa in February 2020, featuring in 2 ODIs at Cape Town and Durban so far. He has also played 2 T20Is for England so far. Though, he didn’t pick any wickets in his two ODI appearances but claimed five wickets in the two T20 Internationals against New Zealand.
ECB tweeted: “An ankle injury has ruled Matt Parkinson out of the Royal London Series with Ireland.”
However, England is yet to name a replacement for Parkinson for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland starting behind closed doors from 30 July to 4 August at the bio-secure venue Southampton.
Noteworthy, England will announce their squad for the upcoming ODI series after the end of the two intra-squad matches and a warm-up game between England Lions and Ireland on Sunday.
