Former England spinner Graeme Swann has recently recalled how young talented wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant impressed him on his Test debut in England.

The left-hander had made his Test debut during the third Test against England at Trent Bridge in 2018 and went onto score a century in the fifth Test.

However, Pant made an impressive impact during his early India career but has seen quite highs and lows since his debut, but still, he gets the backing of the national team management despite struggling last year and former English spinner said that support helps him to play his natural game at the international level.

Recalling Pant’s debut, Swann said he thought Pant would be something special in Test cricket when he saw him batting at Trent Bridge. Hailing Rishabh's cricketing abilities, the Englishman said he adores the way Pant plays his cricket while saying his confidence was one of his biggest strengths.

Swann said during Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected: “The name came up there, Rishabh Pant. I absolutely adore the way he plays his cricket. Irfan’s so right. Because he has someone backing him.”

He further added, “You remember in the Test series when he came to England and first ball or second ball at Trent Bridge, he hit the spin bowler back over his head for six. I thought at that moment that this guy would be something special in Test cricket because he is a youngster and yet he backs his game. He’s got the team around him who backs up.”

Noteworthy, Pant has played 13 Test matches for India and amassed 814 runs so far and has registered a century each against England and Australia. He has also played 16 ODIs and 28 ODIs so far.
