While the international cricket resumed with the England-West Indies Test series earlier this month, New Zealand team continues to be on hiatus in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has been more than four months since Black Caps’ last international assignment and there is no clarity on their next fixture yet.

No wonder, veteran New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor is eager to go out in the middle again in next month’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and is hoping that he can return home to a full international programme.

"It has been a little bit strange over the last few months," Taylor told reporters at a New Zealand team camp in Mt. Maunganui on Monday (July 20).

"So it has been nice to be able to train on grass. There are a lot of us going to the CPL all going well … and it will be nice to get some cricket. Some guys won’t play until the domestic season in October," he added.

Taylor was one of the five Kiwi cricketers to get approval for the CPL 2020 participation. The T20 league will be played from August 18 to September 10 in two venues without any crowds in Trinidad and Tobago.

Ross Taylor revealed New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive David White was keeping players informed about the team’s international programme and discussions around the fate of October’s Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to take a call on the future of T20 World Cup this week.

"David has been in regular contact with us in regards to the home summer and the Twenty20 World Cup. I’m not sure where it stands but hopefully in the coming days we will have a better idea," Taylor said.
