De Villiers, Markram hit scintillating half-centuries as Eagles claim gold in '3TCricket' match

The three-team match was held in Centurion and it was played to raise funds for charity.

AB de Villiers struck 61 off 24 balls

CSA's brainchild, the Solidarity Cup, marked the return of cricket in South Africa on Saturday (July 18).

The three-team match was held in Centurion and it was played to raise funds for people in the game who have suffered financially because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Three teams, led by AB de Villiers, Reeza Hendricks and Bavuma, competed against each other in a single match of 36 overs. While De Villiers skippered Eagles, Bavuma and Hendricks captained Kites and Kingfishers respectively.

The three sides, made up of eight players each, batted in two six-over innings in which they faced each of the other opponents in the field. A draw at the start of the game decided who would bat, bowl and sit in the stands first.

It was the Eagles powered by Aiden Markram (70 off 33 balls) and De Villiers (61 off 24 balls) clinched the Gold with a score of 160/4.

Kites came second and claimed Silver with 138/3 while Kingfishers had to settle for Bronze with 113/5.
