Quinton de Kock opts out of '3TCricket' match due to personal reasons

Cricket South Africa confirmed the news of Temba Bavuma replacing De Kock as Kites' captain.

Quinton de Kock | AFPSouth Africa's limited-overs captain, Quinton de Kock, has opted out of the '3TCricket' match to be played for the Solidarity Cup on Saturday (July 18) in Centurion.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the news, saying De Kock won't be able to lead Mr D Food Kites due to "unforeseen personal circumstances" and will be replaced as captain of the side by Proteas teammate Temba Bavuma.

De Kock is the latest star South African cricketer after pacer Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris to skip the 36-over three-team encounter.

CSA's brainchild, the Solidarity Cup will be played on Nelson Mandela's birthday and will be used to not only generate funds for people who have suffered amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but also serve as a platform for the Proteas to provide meaningful support to the ongoing 'Black Lives Matter' campaign.

Bavuma will be leading Kites against OUTsurance Kingfishers led by Reeza Hendricks and AB de Villiers' Takealot Eagles.

The one-off contest will see all three eight-member teams batting 12 overs, divided into two different halves equally from their oppositions' attack, with each bowler allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs.

For the second half, teams will bat in order of the highest scores made in the first one. The batting order for the second half will be reversed if teams end on tie in the previous half.

The last man standing will be allowed, as in the eighth batsman will be permitted to continue alone after the fall of the seventh wicket, even if that coincides with the conclusion of the first half, but can score in only even digits until he is dismissed.
