Jofra Archer had impressed one and all with his speed and some vicious bouncers during England’s defeat in the first Test at Southampton against the West Indies. Everyone was looking forward to his exploits in Manchester Test, a match that England must-win to draw equal in the three-Test series.
He was named in the squad for the second Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester. However, in the morning of match-day, a startling revelation came to the fore. Archer had breached the bio-security protocol of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and was ruled out of the match.
It was then revealed that Archer took a detour to his home in Brighton en route to Manchester from Southampton. He was subsequently slammed for his irresponsible behavior. Michael Atherton even called his actions “foolish” and said that they could undo all the good work done by the ECB for the resumption of cricket in the coronavirus pandemic.
Archer is now in self-isolation for five days and will be tested for COVID-19 twice and if found negative, will be allowed to join the team again. After the mishap, the young Archer also issued an apology and accepted the consequences for his actions.
Now fans have dug out his old tweets and one of the backdated posts has gone viral. Back on October 15, 2017, he had taken to Twitter and wrote, “Chose the wrong night to come home.”
For the time being, it remains to be seen whether or not Archer gets to play the third and final Test in Manchester itself, starting Friday, July 24.
