14 July will always be a special day for England, after all, the Lions won their maiden World Cup title in front of crowd at the iconic Lord’s ground after beating New Zealand in the dramatic final last year.

However, many felt the result was unfair since the hosts crowned World Cup 2019 champions on the boundary counts against the Black Caps. Well, for the fact, England is now a World Cup winner and in that win, Liam Plunkett played a key role, dismissing opposition captain Kane Williamson in the final.

In the tournament, Plunkett took 11 scalps in seven games at 24.73 including figures of 3/42 in the final against New Zealand to help England to win the World Cup 2019, but since the prestigious tournament he was sidelined from the squad and even he wasn’t picked for the ongoing West Indies series.

As per The Guardian, Plunkett had said on his snub from even training camp, “I think that’s what it is. I appreciate it’s a sport, at the highest level, and new people are always coming in but do I still think I’m good enough to play for England? Of course. But that ship has sailed and I’m not a person to hold grudges. I’m trying to get on with the next thing at Surrey.”

Reacting to the World Cup winner’s surprise omission from England team, a Twitter fan said the pacer had bowled some ‘long hops’ (short-pitched deliveries), making the job easier for Williamson. However, the fan acknowledged Plunkett’s contribution but said England is doing right to move on from the Liam.

Following the tweet, Plunkett hit back at the criticism by saying, “Only 50% of the time”.

Noteworthy, Plunkett has so far represented England in 13 Tests, 89 ODIs and 22 T20Is, and he has shown interest in shifting his base to the USA where his wife resides after constant English omission.
