Hemang Amin appointed interim BCCI CEO after Rahul Johri's resignation

The board had accepted Johri's resignation last week after giving him an extension at the job.

Hemang Amin | TwitterHaving accepted Rahul Johri's resignation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) replaced the former CEO with Hemang Amin on an interim basis.

A report published by IANS states that the board employees were informed of the new appointment this Monday (July 13).

Amin, the COO of the Indian Premier League (IPL), had played a major role in BCCI opting to do away with the opening ceremony last year, and instead donate the fund to the families of the soldiers martyred in the Pulwama attack.

"The right man for this charge. To be very honest his contribution to the BCCI has been miles ahead of Johri and he did the real work for most of the commercial deals of the BCCI," a board functionary told IANS in praise of Amin.

"Sincere, competent, has the best interests of BCCI at heart and also writes his own emails," added a former BCCI office-bearer.

Johri had tendered his resignation a lot earlier, but it was accepted last Thursday (July 9). Board officials in the know-how of the development said it was about the leak of confidential financial information over a sponsorship deal, adding that the current regime has a no-compromise policy with regards to the transparency in its functioning.

"His resignation was accepted today ( last Thursday). He had officially handed his resignation some time ago but due to Covid-19, the board didn’t take a decision as BCCI wondered how he would find a job in these times. However, the board now has released him with immediate effect," a board functionary had told IANS

"He has been informed of the decision by email. He had resigned earlier and was asked to continue in the interim. However, the leak of confidential financial information of a bid that was being prepared accelerated the decision. Highest levels of confidentiality are expected when any bid takes place in an organization."

"This was considered to be scandalous and had the potential to compromise the bid. Financial matters if you cannot keep confidential, then it is a serious lapse that cannot be excused, especially with the new BCCI."
