The two fixed seats were originally allotted to Gavaskar and his wife at the Garware Pavilion to honor him during his retirement, but it went missing following a renovation of the iconic stadium ahead of the 2011 World Cup since the seating arrangement was changed from cushioned wooden planks to bucket seats.
However, a day before the cricket legend’s 71st birthday, the MCA decided to reinstate and reposition the two permanent seats at the Wankhede Stadium for one of cricket's evergreen personalities.
