South Africa's young pacer Lungi Ngidi was criticized by former cricketers for his take on the Black Lives Matter movement. Ngidi was very clear about his thought on racial issues. He said people in South Africa need to take the movement very seriously like the rest of the world.
But former South African cricketers Pat Symcox and Boeta Dippenaar said the fast bowler should not only stick to Black Lives Matter movement and speak for all.
After receiving backlash for his comment, the 24-year-old got the support of the former West Indies captain Daren Sammy.
Tweeting in support of Ngidi, Sammy said, "The fact that some past players have an issue with @NgidiLungi stance on #blacklivesmatter movement is actually the reason why we are still here today saying black lives matter. Smfh ????????????#standupbrother we here with u ✊????✊????✊????✊????✊????".
The ex-South Africa off-spinner Symcox had responded to Ngidi's comment and he was very critical of him. “What nonsense is this. He must take his own stand if he wishes. Stop trying to get the Proteas involved in his belief.
“Besides the fact that right now Cricket South Africa should be closed down. A proper dog and pony show with cricket being dragged through the mud daily. Buy popcorn and watch. Now when Ngidi has his next meal perhaps he would rather consider supporting the farmers of South Africa who are under pressure right now. A cause worth supporting", he said.
