Pakistan’s legendary paceman and current bowling coach Waqar Younis has recently opened up about the possible reasons behind Men in Green’s inability to beat India in World Cups.
It is well known to everyone that Pakistan has never won a single match in the 50-over and 20-over World Cup event against the arch-rival India since 1992. However, Pakistan had won the 1992 World Cup under Imran Khan but could not defeat India in the tournament.

The legendary pacer regrets not being of Pakistan's historic campaign in the 1992 World Cup due to an injury. However, Waqar got a chance to make amends in 1996, but Navjot Sidhu’s brilliance and an Ajay Jadeja onslaught in the quarter-final against him ensured India’s win over his team in that World Cup as well.
Younis was a part of two World Cup defeats in 1996 & 2003 that Pakistan suffered against India during his career, while even now India’s complete domination over the neighbors has continued in the World Cups, winning matches in 2011, 2015, and 2019 editions of the ICC event.
Speaking to Twitter handle @GloFansOfficial, Younis said it is difficult to pinpoint one reason behind Pakistan’s defeats, but said India played a better brand of cricket than his team and the way they played a positive brand of cricket and handled the pressure, they deserved to win every single of those matches.

Waqar said while answering a fan’s question regarding the same: “Over the last few World Cups, Pakistan has not won against India. We did well in other formats, we did well in Test matches, but when it comes to World Cups and ODI Cricket, India has always had an upper hand on us. And they deserve it. I think they played better cricket than us.”
He further explained, “I remember in Bangalore and back in I think that was in Pretoria in 2003. I remember most of them and I think I have played a couple of them. So, they were a very good side and I think on that particular day they just came out with a very positive frame of mind, they played better cricket and played smartly. We did not play smartly; we had games in our hands.”
Younis signed off by saying, “If you look at the World Cup in 2011 and then of course back in ’96 also we had the game in our hand, but it is just, we… we just threw it away. It is hard to pinpoint why we do that, maybe, it’s just the pressure of the World Cup now because it happens so many times, it is just the psychological pressure on us that we just cannot really win against them but yeah, it’s very very difficult to pinpoint on one thing.”
Noteworthy, India has so far won 7 and 5 matches that they have so far played against their arch-rivals Pakistan in 50-over and 20-over World Cups respectively.
