CPL 2020 Draft: Barbados Tridents pick Rashid Khan; Imran Tahir returns to Guyana Amazon Warriors

This year's edition of the Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to kickstart on August 18.

Rashid Khan | TwitterDefending champions Barbados Tridents signed star Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan during the draft for the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Monday (July 6).

Apart from Rashid, who has become the most attractive cricketer for teams in T20 leagues across the globe, the Tridents also drafted in explosive England opener Alex Hales and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, Harry Gurney and another Afghani cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the overseas category.

The team made a genuine effort to retain its last year's successful core, also signing Kyle Mayers to join a solid set of players from the Caribbean.

Trinbago Knight Riders' most popular signing was former Mumbai wrist-spinner Pravin Tambe, who became the league's first-ever Indian pick at the age of 48, having made a name for himself through exploits in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Besides Tambe, the team also brought back Australian leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed. Fawad was part of Knight Riders' successful CPL campaign in 2018. Mostly retaining its core, the team made other valuable addition to the set-up such as New Zealand wicketkeeper Tim Seifert and Zimbabwean batsman Sikandar Raza.

Guyana Amazon Warriors retained 13 of the players that were part of the team that went undefeated until the end of the league stage last year, apart from adding New Zealand's Ross Taylor and Afghani Naveen-ul-Haq. The likes of Imran Tahir, Chris Green, Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford made a return to the Warriors.

Australians Chris Lynn and Ben Dunk have been signed by St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who further picked Ish Sodhi and Sohail Tanvir. The Patriots brought back Rassie van der Dussen after his fruitful stint with the team in 2018, also welcoming back Fabian Allen, Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell. Rayad Emrit will be captaining the side.

Hoping to rebuild their side after the disappointing last season that saw the team finish bottom of the points table, Jamaica Tallawahs recruited Carlos Brathwaite, whom Patriots had released, apart from signing Nepalese leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and South African left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.

They've further brought in Pakistani all-rounder Asif Ali. The team retained its highest run-maker for the 2019 edition, Glenn Phillips. Tallawahs already boast of a strong local contingent, including Andre Russell, Rovman Powell, and Oshane Thomas.

CPL 2020 is scheduled to kickstart on August 18 and run till September 10.
