Pravin Tambe, at 48, becomes first Indian cricketer to sign up for CPL

Tambe bagged deal with Trinbago Knight Riders in Monday's CPL draft.

Pravin Tambe | TwitterThey say T20 cricket is for the youngsters and Pravin Tambe has proved it wrong time and again. The 48-year-old on Monday (July 6) became the first cricketer from India to be picked for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Tambe was roped in by Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL draft and will ply his trade for the Kieron Pollard-led side in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

CPL 2020 will be played behind closed doors between August 18 and September 10 in Trinidad and Tobago after getting approval from local government in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tambe had thrown his hat into the CPL draft after the BCCI barred him from competing in the now-postponed IPL 2020 for participating in the unsanctioned T10 League in Abu Dhabi last year.

The veteran leg-spinner was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League but the BCCI disqualified him since he had featured in the T10 League without informing the board.

"I am fit and since the BCCI does not allow me to take part in its competitions why shouldn't I play in other leagues. I am eligible to play outside and got picked by TKR," Tambe had told The Indian Express last week.

Tambe, who made his IPL debut at the age of 41 for Rajasthan Royals back in 2013, has not played in the cash-rich tournament since 2016. Although he was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017, he didn’t get a game.

Trinbago Knight Riders full team for CPL 2020: Kieron Pollard (c), Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, Colin Munro, Fawad Ahmed, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Khary Pierre, Tim Seifert, Sikandar Raza, Anderson Phillip, Pravin Tambe, Jayden Seales, Amir Jangoo, Tion Webster, Akeal Hosein, M Ali Khan.
