Sri Lanka cricketer Kusal Mendis on Monday (July 6) heaved a sigh of relief as he was granted bail by Panadura Magistrate’s Court on two sureties worth 1 million Sri Lankan rupees.
Mendis was arrested a day earlier in connection with an accident that killed a man in Panadura.
Moreover, the Panadura Additional Magistrate ordered that a compensation worth 1 million rupees to be paid to victim’s family.
The 64-year-old resident of Gorakapola, Panadura, who was riding a bicycle, succumbed to multiple injuries after the SUV driven by the Mendis crashed the victim in the Horethuduwa area.
A CCTV footage of the accident which took place at around 5 AM on Sunday has also come out in the media.
In a video posted by Sri Lankan media outlet Daily Mirror on Twitter, the severity of the accident can be assumed with the damage to Kusal’s car and the cycle due to the clash.
Kusal Mendis was part of the Sri Lankan squad that underwent training in Pallekele earlier this week.
