‘All players would be happy whenever we get to play some cricket’: Shikhar Dhawan

The southpaw revealed he kept on training during COVID-19 lockdown.

Shikhar Dhawan | AFPAll forms of domestic and international cricket have been on hiatus since March due to the global Coronavirus outbreak.

Amid the crisis, India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been spending time at home but he isn’t letting this pandemic-induced break affect his physical fitness.

Speaking to ANI, Dhawan on Saturday (July 4) revealed that he kept on training during the lockdown and now waiting to play some cricket.

"We have been playing constantly, so the break was a welcome one for me, I told myself that rather than a challenge, it is an opportunity to spend time with my family, I grabbed the opportunity, I take my child for cycling every evening, this has taught me the importance of spending time with family, I have also been training at my home, I have been doing gym and yoga, I have started batting now as well so I am totally fit and strong, I am in a good mindset as well," the southpaw said.

"The BCCI and government must be talking to each other, whatever BCCI decides, we will follow that, the safety of every player is of the utmost importance. It has been three-four months that we have not played, all players would be happy whenever we get to play some cricket. When things get normal, it is just not good for cricket, but it is good for the entire world," he added.

The break has been longer for Dhawan than a lot of his teammates, as he had gone down with a shoulder injury while fielding in the third ODI of the home series against Australia in January and subsequently missed the tour of New Zealand that followed.

He was set to make his comeback via the ODI series against South Africa in March, but the first match in Dharamshala got washed out and the next two weren't played because of the ongoing epidemic.

The left-hander would have turned up for Delhi Capitals had the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced on March 29. However, the cash-rich event continues to remain suspended ‘until further notice’ due to COVID-19.
