Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis arrested after fatal car accident 

A 64-year-old man whom Mendis' car hit died after succumbing to his injuries.

Kusal Mendis | AFP Kusal Mendis, the young talented Sri Lankan batsman, was on Sunday (July 5) arrested after a vehicle he was driving hit a 64-year-old man, who eventually died after enduring multiple injuries to his body.

Mendis' SUV has been taken into police custody, it is reported, following the incident which took place in Panadura, south of Colombo early morning on Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who has played 44 Tests, 76 ODIs and 26 T20Is for Sri Lanka, had the news of his arrest confirmed by SSP Jaliya Senaratne, the police spokesperson. 

Already attended by a doctor for an examination, Mendis will be presented before a local magistrate in the next 48 hours.

Mendis was part of the Sri Lankan squad that underwent training in Pallekele earlier this week.
