Mike Hussey backs MS Dhoni to continue playing for as long as he can

Speculations have been going on over Dhoni's future for a while now.

MS Dhoni | IANS Former Australia batsman Mike Hussey hasn't had enough of watching Mahendra Singh Dhoni play for India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, as he wishes to see the great wicketkeeper batsman continue playing for another decade if possible.

Speculations have been rife over Dhoni's retirement because the 38-year-old hasn't played for India since the last year's World Cup semi-final loss to New Zealand. Dhoni was due to end his break away from the game and turn up for CSK in IPL 2020, but the tournament remains suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"He's been an incredible person and player for CSK and India for so long. We hope he keeps playing for another 10 years but I am not sure we are going to be able to see that. Hopefully, he can play for as long as he can," Hussey said during an online interaction for 'Sony Ten Pit Stop'.

"I love MS as the captain. I love how calm he is and how much he backs his players and shows so much faith in his players. Obviously, he is very astute from a tactical point of view. Certain moves he makes... you wonder where he is going with it but it's amazing how often it sort of comes true and works out in his favour."

"Also batting with him in the middle in tight run-chases, it's amazing to see how calm he is and how calculated he is. Always wanting to be there in the middle till the last over of the game," he added.

Hussey then reminisced his days playing for CSK, how things were like the first time he stepped into the team's dressing room for the inaugural edition in 2008 and also the relationship between Dhoni and the team's longstanding coach Stephen Fleming.

"I fell in love with the IPL from the very moment I walked into the CSK dressing room in 2008. It was such a wonderful environment. Guys that just loved cricket from all over the world. That's what I loved the most," he said.

"Bringing guys from all over the world, watching how they prepare for the game, watching how they were talking to them and learning from them. Talking to Indian players about how to play spin in India. It was just such a great environment and I just fell in love straight away."

"Those 2 (Fleming and Dhoni) together, they complement each other so well. They share a very good relationship, mutual respect (is) there. They both are very good thinkers of the game, very shrewd and very smart. They both work very well together," Hussey added.
