PCB facilitated re-test finds Mohammad Hafeez COVID-19 positive again

Hafeez's private test result had come out negative earlier this week.

Mohammad Hafeez | AFPMohammad Hafeez's COVID-19 test results seem to be a mystery as the Pakistan all-rounder tested positive again for the deadly virus.

Hafeez was among the 9 Pakistani players who tested positive for the novel Coronavirus when the PCB conducted the first round of tests last Tuesday (June 23).

However, he posted a tweet the very next day with a report from a private medical facility where the result came out negative.

The turn of events left the Pakistan Cricket Board embarrassed and the organisation accused the cricketer of violating protocols ahead of the team's highly-anticipated tour of England.

As per a PTI report, the Shaukat Khanum Memorial hospital did a retest of the earlier sample they had taken from Hafeez and it again came positive for COVID-19.

"This is a very intriguing situation for the board. It will be interesting to see what is the result of the second test taken today of the 10 players, who tested positive in the first test earlier this week will come," a source in the board was quoted as saying by PTI.

The PCB has said it will announce the results of all tests on Saturday (June 27).

According to the source, Hafeez is likely to face disciplinary action from the board if his test comes out positive on Saturday as instead of going into isolation after the first result, he preferred to do get a second test done.

Defending his action, a source close to Hafeez insisted that the veteran cricketer was "very disturbed" after his first test came positive and he was obviously worried for his immediate family.

"That is why he took a second test privately as a precautionary measure he had no intention to embarrass the authorities," the source said.

If the second test of the players who earlier tested positive again comes positive they will miss the flight to England. The team is due to leave for England on Sunday (June 28) for a Test and T20I series in August.
