Robin Singh's car seized by Chennai police for COVID-19 lockdown violation

Former Indian cricketer neither had the e-pass nor any valid reason when he was found violating rules.

Former India cricketer-turned-coach Robin Singh's car has been seized by the Chennai Police for violating the Coronavirus lockdown rules in the capital of Tamil Nadu.

Amid the Coronavirus outbreak, the government issued strict guidelines for everybody and Tamil Nadu has govt also instructed all to follow the rules.

Since June 19, there is a strict lockdown in Chennai for 12 days after the number of COVID-19 cases has seen a rapid rise with the numbers standing at 45814 till now.

Given the current COVID-19 situation, the Chennai Police Commissioner A.K.Viswanathan had instructed all citizens to come out only for buying essential items without any vehicles and only within a two-kilometer radius from their homes to tackle the spread of the deadly virus in the city.

Well, the COVID-19 rules are the same for everyone and former Mumbai Indians assistant coach was found violating lockdown rules, traveling in his car for more than 2 KM from his residence without any valid reason, resulting in Chennai Police seized his vehicle on Saturday morning.

A police official said that former cricket was coming from the East Coast Road (ECR) and after checking, it was found that he neither had the e-pass nor any valid reason-like emergency-to travel in his car during the ongoing strict COVID-19 lockdown.

Speaking to IANS, the police official said: “He was very polite and didn't put on any airs. We seized his vehicle for violating the lockdown rules.”

Noteworthy, Robin played one Test and 136 One-Day Internationals for India and scored 2336 runs in ODIs apart from picking up 69 wickets in his career between 1989-2001.

After retirement, he has taken up coaching and worked in various domestic leagues including IPL, Sri Lanka Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, Caribbean Premier League. He was also named UAE’s Director of Cricket.
