Sachin Tendulkar glad to live upto Sunil Gavaskar's expectations early into his career

Tendulkar ended up with over 15,000 Test and 18,000 ODI runs with combined total of 100 centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil GavaskarIt is hard to imagine that Sachin Tendulkar was once seen as the next Sunil Gavaskar by many. Tendulkar made his Mumbai domestic debut in 1988, narrowly missing playing with the legendary opener who retired just a year ago.

However, the similarities between the two given their short stature, tight technique, and grateful demeanor were enough for the world and especially Indian fans to expect a lot from young Tendulkar, who first played for India in 1989, against Pakistan.

He made quite an impact, becoming the then youngest Indian to make a Test century, which came against England in 1990 and went onto have a legendary career spanning 24 years.

Prithvi Shaw recalls Sachin Tendulkar gifting him a bat when he was only 8

In a clip shared by a fan on Twitter, the original little master Sunil Gavaskar in conversation with Sachin Tendulkar predicted that if Sachin didn’t have atleast 15,000 Test runs and 40 Test centuries by the time he retires, he will personally strangle him. Sachin smiles and replies that he will try his best.

Well, Tendulkar’s exemplary career saw him playing 200 Tests and 463 ODIs and made 15921 Test and 18426 ODI runs with a combined 100 centuries in international cricket. He broke many records and still holds some of the records that might not be broken anytime soon.

Sachin Tendulkar also replied to the video saying, “This happened very early in my career. ???? Special words from the great man. I am just glad that I could live upto his expectations. Thanks for sharing this wonderful moment Subu!
