Bangladesh’s beloved cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza has become the latest to contract the deadly Coronavirus as per reports from a source close to Dhaka Tribune.

Mortaza, who recently gave up captaincy of ODIs to Tamim Iqbal, has played 36 Tests, 220 ODIs and 54 T20I matches for Bangladesh since his debut in 2001 against Zimbabwe in Tests. He has 78 Test, 270 ODI, and 42 T20I wickets to his name.

He had complained about fever on Thursday night, following which his test samples proved that he has contracted with the deadly virus. While the cricketer wasn't available for a comment, his family sources have confirmed that Mashrafe's tests returned positive on Saturday and the cricketer has been in self-isolation at his residence in Dhaka.

"He wasn't keeping well for the last couple of days, so he had undergone a test. The results have come positive and now he has been home-quarantined,” Mashrafe's younger brother Morsalin bin Mortaza confirmed to Sportstar.

Reports by the Bangladesh media suggest that some of his family members had tested positive earlier. Mashrafe is the second big profile cricketer to be tested positive for COVID-19 after former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi.
