Former England captain-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain has heaped praise on Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli while comparing the captaincy impact of the duo on Indian cricket.
Despite taking over the captaincy in troubled times for Indian cricket, Ganguly went on to become one of the most successful captains having won 76 ODIs and 21 Tests out of the 146 ODIs and 49 Tests for India.
On the other hand, Kohli has already become India’s most successful Test captain and is continue to bring laurels for the country across all three formats of the game.
Ganguly and Kohli both have been instrumental as captain for Team India and Hussain also admitted the duo’s massive contribution in the rise of Indian cricket as a cricketing powerhouse in the world cricket.
Showering rich praise on Ganguly, the former England captain, who had many famous encounters on the field with former India captain, said the current BCCI President started the revolution of Indian cricket, as well as, made the Indian team tough in his time as captain. He further said Ganguly made the Indian team a feisty side whereas Kohli is desperate for victory.
Hussain said on Sony Ten Pit Stop: “Sourav made the Indian team a feisty side. He made the side tough, and when he was captaining the side you knew you were in a big battle with them. I have huge respect for him as a captain as he started the revolution of Indian cricket.”
Praising current India captain, the well-known commentator said: “Virat Kohli is a hugely combative cricketer. When he is out on the field, he wants to win and is desperate for victory.”
He was also highly impressed by England’s current white-ball captain Eoin Morgan’s leadership skills and the best part of his captaincy is that he is allowing everyone to express themselves.
Hussain signed off by saying, “He has done such a fine job leading the England white-ball side. The best aspect of the side is that they look to express themselves well. Another important aspect about this side is their selection. They have gone with players who are good white-ball cricketers such as Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, and Jason Roy among others. More importantly, Eoin is known to be someone who is calm and cool as a captain.”
