In an interview with Hindustan Times, Digvijay, who was picked to play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020, reiterated Sushant’s passion for cricket. He disclosed that on the last day of the shoot he made a promise to the MS Dhoni biopic actor that he would not meet him until he becomes a decent level cricketer.

After being roped in by the defending IPL champions at the auction, Deshmukh wanted to meet Sushant but then the COVID-19 lockdown happened and the fast bowler could not fulfill his wish.

“He was passionate about cricket. On the last day of the shoot, I had promised him I’d not meet him till I became a decent level cricketer. This year, when I got selected to play for Mumbai Indians, I decided to meet him but then the lockdown happened and now he is no more,” Digvijay said.

“I wish the lockdown wouldn’t have been there, at least then I would have been able to fulfill the promise I made to him. I failed to do so,” he added.

The 22-year-old pacer further revealed he refused to meet Sushant even when the actor went to his city for the promotion of Kai Po Che.

“Even then I did not meet him because I wanted to keep the promise. I regret it. I was 15 then and I shot with him for six months. He would ask me to come to his room after the shoot got over, and train me with scenes and camera angles,” he stated.

Deshmukh, who has represented Maharashtra in one First-Class and seven T20 games so far, also spoke about Sushant’s nature as a person.

“He was very involved. He was very friendly, happy and jovial and so passionate about his work. Even though he was such a big name, he would ask me about cricket since I was already a professional cricketer than,” he said.
