Afridi, 40, shared the news through a tweet on Saturday (June 13) and asked the fans to pray for him.

"I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately, I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah," he wrote on Twitter.

Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, Afridi has been doing a lot of charity work through his foundation Hope Not Out. He has helped thousands of underprivileged people with ration and other essential supplies over the past couple of months.

Afridi is the third Pakistani cricketer to test positive for COVID-19. Last month, ex-Pakistan opener Taufeeq Umar was tested positive and he has now recovered from the disease. In April, former Pakistan first-class cricketer Zafar Sarfaraz had passed away due to the deadly virus.

Pakistan has witnessed over 1,30,000 COVID-19 cases thus far. Over 50,000 patients have recovered from the disease while nearly 2500 have succumbed.
