New Zealand pace superhead Trent Boult has recently recalled his memorable Test debut for the Kiwi back against Australia at 22, revealing he had to endure a traditional Aussie welcome while walking out to bat in Hobart in 2011.

Speaking on a Black Caps podcast on its YouTube channel with team-mate Kyle Jamieson, Boult revealed that he had braces on his teeth when he got picked for a potential Test debut back in 2011 and even had to get that sorted before flying to Australia.

He made his Test debut in the second Test in Hobart where the fast bowler took 4 wickets and scored 21 runs to help New Zealand won the Test by seven runs against Australia. It was New Zealand’s first win in Australia since 1985 and its first test win over the Kangaroos since 1993 in the format.

Boult told the podcast, “I had braces the week before I got selected and I remember going to the orthodontist and saying: 'I can't go to Australia with a set of braces on my teeth'.”

He further added, “I specifically remember it, I walked out there to bat absolutely packing myself and Brad Haddin looked at me and goes 'mate, does your mother know where you are?'. He was just getting into me, and I was s--ting myself... [but] I remember the celebrations after that, winning by six runs.”

Noteworthy, Boult got the maiden opportunity to play in for an injured Daniel Vettori in an all-seam attack for New Zealand who suffered a defeat in the first Test in Brisbane.

The pacer now has 267 wickets from 67 Tests, which makes him the fourth-highest wicket-taker on New Zealand's all-time only behind Sir Richard Hadlee (431), Vettori (361) and Tim Southee (284).
