BCCI official calls Australia T20Is irrelevant if T20 World Cup doesn’t happen, as per reports

India is scheduled to play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 4 Tests on the tour to Australia later this year.

India is scheduled to play 3 T20Is against Australia on their tour later this yearIndian team is scheduled to tour Australia later this year for a full series of three T20Is and ODIs along with four Test matches. However, top sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that the team might not play T20Is.

The Men in Blue are supposed to play three T20Is from October 11 - October 17, 2020, if the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia doesn’t go ahead as per schedule from October 18. The Indian cricket board is firm on its stand. BCCI will not make its players and team travel back and forth for 3 T20I internationals, with the Test series starting on December 3 in Gabba, Brisbane.

As per timesnownews.com sources, BCCI will communicate to Cricket Australia (CA) that the T20I series will have to be rescheduled if the T20 World Cup is postponed in the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting on June 10.

Nothing wrong with BCCI wanting to hold IPL if T20 World Cup is postponed: Michael Holding

If the T20 World Cup does not happen, the 3-match T20I series makes no sense for our players. Everything was decided keeping in line with the schedule of the T20 World Cup. We need to avoid unnecessary travel. We will see to it that the T20I series is clubbed with the Test series in December later this year. The postponement of the T20 World Cup will give us the much-needed space to play some other bilateral series,” a BCCI official explained.

The ICC, in its last meeting, on May 28, deferred all decisions, including, on the postponement of the T20 World Cup to June 10 and all member boards are now expected to once again seek an update from CA and ICC on the World Cup.

BCCI may contemplate holding the IPL 2020 in the window of the T20 World Cup if the ICC event is postponed. The Indian board stands to lose Rs 4000 crore if the IPL is cancelled. It was supposed to start from March 29, but was indefinitely postponed by the BCCI after Coronavirus pandemic spread in India and worldwide.
