Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria is some of the greatest bowlers the country has ever produced over the years and even he is the fourth-highest wicket-taker after legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Imran Khan in the Test cricket.
However, Kaneria doesn’t get as equal recognition and respect as the other bowling greats in Pakistan because of his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal in the United Kingdom in 2010 and since the incident, the former spinner wasn’t included in any form of cricket.
Well, Kaneria has been trying hard that his life ban to be lifted anyhow and even constantly requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the same in order to make some contribution to Pakistan cricket.
In an interaction with ANI, the 39-year-old has yet again requested the PCB to lift his life ban while expressing his desire to involve with Pakistan cricket in order to contribute to the country by introducing more quality spinners that are reducing in the country. He also urged the PCB to rope in former players to groom the budding talent in the country.
Kaneria told ANI, “The spinners are reducing in number in Pakistan. That is why I want to clear my name and help the spinners in the country. I would like to work with them to shape their career and I would like to give Pakistan quality leg-spinners once again.”
The former leg spinner further opined, “PCB should really think about it. I would like to request PCB to get more former cricketers involved in their setup, at least look to get those players involved who have played 30-40 Test matches for Pakistan. These former players can really help out in the academies and they can shape up some budding talent. Give chances to cricketers. Recently PCB appointed Saqlain Mushtaq as Head of International Player Development. It is a very good sign. Saqlain is a really experienced guy and he will help all the players.”
Noteworthy, Kaneria played 61 Tests and 18 ODIs for Pakistan, taking 276 wickets across both formats while he last played an international in 2010 against England at Nottingham.
