Legendary Indian cricketer and current President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sourav Ganguly is widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian captains of all time.

Ganguly, who was an uncompromising leader, was handed over the captaincy when the Indian cricket team was in doldrums following the match-fixing scandal that rocked Indian cricket in 2000.

However, he managed to bring out the best from the Indian team by leading magnificently and left a lasting impression with his aggressive style of captaincy. The former captain always backed the young talents and instilled a winning belief in the national team and made India a dominant force in all three formats of the game apart from winning several laurels at the highest level.

Recently, Ganguly has expressed his thoughts on how a leader should be, as well as, opened up about leadership skills, saying the greatest leaders make mistakes but he must learn from the mistakes and failures and take it as a part of growing to be a better version of ourselves.

Delivering an online lecture on leadership during a Live class on Unacademy, the BCCI chief further said a captain needs to focus on the natural talent of the team in order to bring the best out of any player.

He further claimed that adaptability is one of the key qualities of leadership while citing no one can expect Rahul Dravid to play like Yuvraj Singh and vice versa, as the former all-rounder was known for his swashbuckling style while Dravid for his calm demeanor both on and off the field.

Ganguly said during a live class: “Adaptability is one of the key leadership qualities. A leader should tap the natural talents of the team members. You cannot make Rahul Dravid act like Yuvraj or make Yuvraj be Rahul. The only way to handle pressure is to live with pressure. The more pressure you handle, the better you become at what you do. You should always steer your fears away to get the best results.”

The 47-year-old signed off by saying, “The greatest of the leaders make mistakes, but as long as the intentions are right, everything else will fall into place. You should learn from your own mistakes and leave them behind to be a better version of yourself. Don't let your losses get you down, that's a part of growing up. Learning from failures will lead you to success.”
