Former India seamer Irfan Pathan believes that the management of all the international teams will have to be extremely careful about the bowlers’ fitness and injury management once cricket returns following the global shutdown due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Pathan, a former all-rounder, also said the bowlers need to be careful about their workload when they return from the coronavirus-forced hiatus, as there would be high chances of sustaining injuries having been out of action since mid-March because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
While England and West Indies players returned to training, Indian players haven’t been able to practice since March 25 due to the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown.
Pathan said on Star Sports show 'Cricket Connected', “Injury management is the most important thing. We will have to focus on all the bowlers. In a squad of 15, every team has four to six bowlers. Be it an IPL team, Indian team, or any international or domestic team, we will have to be extremely careful about injury management as our boys have been out of action for a while.”
Recently, the International Cricket Council has announced the specific guidelines for the bowlers, advising all the teams to exercise caution over bowlers’ workloads in order to avoid a serious injury like a stress fracture of the spine as players resume training.
