The South African cricketers are expected to resume training from next week and might appear in an exhibition event later this month, provided that they get a green signal from their government.

On Monday (June 1), the country moved to Level 3 of the five-stage lockdown. Hence, the probability of resumption of outdoor training has increased.

Notably, the Level 3 stage of the lockdown allows resumption of non-contact professional sports training and matches after due permission from the country’s sports ministry.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, South Africa’s sporting bodies, including Cricket South Africa (CSA) will have to submit a presentation to the government, explaining their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for resumption of training.

The report further stated that CSA could submit their presentation this week with an objective to start outdoor training from next week.

As per the stage-wise resumption of training, CSA initially wants franchise cricketers to hit the ground running keeping in mind the ICC guidelines, which prohibits the traditional practice of using saliva to maintain the shine of the ball.

The governing body will later weigh up whether it is possible for players to travel across provincial borders for camps and eventually matches.

The report also claims that CSA is planning to hold an event, “something which we have not seen before.”
