Kumar Sangakkara, the current MCC President, and Sri Lankan cricket legend has made his pick for the best current batsman in the world.
Sangakkara was doing an Instagram live session with former Zimbabwe pacer Pommie Mbangwa when he was asked to pick the best batsman in the world. The former Lankan captain named India’s Virat Kohli without any hesitation.
Virat Kohli, who is currently India’s captain has had a storied career from being a child protégé to being marked as a future great and then realizing his dream of proving that prediction right, has become a yardstick for measuring greatness in all three formats.

He has 7240 runs in 86 Tests with 27 centuries, 11867 runs in 248 ODIs with 43 centuries, and 2794 runs in 82 T20Is with 24 fifties to his name. He averages over 50 in all the three formats and is nearing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most international centuries at an alarming rate.
Currently, Kohli is ranked at the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings while he is in second place in the Tests rankings.
Meanwhile, further in the conversation, Kumar Sangakkara picked Nathan Lyon as the best current spinner and James Anderson, in English conditions, as the best current fast bowler in the world. He also named Mitchell Starc and Jasprit Bumrah as the best bowlers in all conditions.
